Gaël Dournes was qualified as an MD specialist in radiology and medical imaging in 2012. In parallel, he moved to a research curriculum, and obtained a PhD in Bioinformatics in 2012 from UB. After being a post-doctoral fellow at University of Cincinnati in the Center for Pulmonary Imaging Research, directed by Pr Jason Woods in 2019-2020, he was hired as a full professor at UB in 2022. He is currently the head of the pulmonary imaging research unit at the Centre de Recherche Cardio-Thoracique de Bordeaux (CRCTB).
Thanks to his complementary training in medicine and imaging, fundamental artificial intelligence, and MR physics, he is running strong translational research to tackle morphologic and functional information that can be obtained with an MR of the lung. He is the author of 60 publications, ten book chapters, and 2 patents. He is also board member of several national and international instances to promote teaching and research developments in the field of thoracic imaging.
